| Sadiki's Success |
|
Client, Sadiki, started at LCC in February of 2009. He was referred here due to dangerous behaviors, such as assaulting peers and running away from school. On his first day of school he assaulted his new teacher multiple times and tried running away. Although he was referred to seek psychiatric treatment at Lincoln Child Center when he first arrived his parents were against the idea of medicating their child, since they had a horrible experience prior to Lincoln with a psychiatrist in the community. In April of 2010, Sadiki 's behaviors escalated. He was threatening death to his peers, he would become nonverbal often and internalize his anger and frustration, but he continued to attend individual therapy regularly and his parents were present for family therapy. It was also at this point that his parents agreed that it was time to have him assessed by the psychiatrist at Lincoln, and they agreed to have him started on medication to help support his symptoms of ADHD. Once client started medication he was able to show some impulse control and was able to focus. It was during this time that he was able to practice relaxation/calming techniques and he started implementing coping skills he was learning in therapy. This client went from having crisis every day during the months of April and May of 2010, to having 50 days of Self Control, which is the highest level a client can earn in the Day Treatment/Non-Public School Program. He has done so well over the past 9 months, that the team working with this client feels he could transition down to a lower level of care at the end of the summer school program. |
