Program Description

CEO Youth (Creating Entrepreneurship Opportunities for Youth) trains young entrepreneurs and grows future leaders. CEO Youth is a LCC high school youth entrepreneur program that applies the lessons students learn in the classroom to conceptualizing and launching a youth-led business venture.

CEO Youth connects youth to local business leaders and other community resources so that they see that making positive life choices leads to success in school and achieving their life goals. This is an after-school program with a curriculum designed to develop entrepreneurial, financial literacy, and other life skills that are applicable in an academic setting and valuable in any future professional environment. At the end of the program students will graduate with a toolbox of personal resources to use when choosing a career and confronting any decision. CEO Youth gives students a reason to learn, build self-confidence, and inspire achievement.

Goals

The primary goals are to improve the student's school attendance and academic performance by increasing motivation, promoting a healthy lifestyle, setting personal goals and applying academics to real-life situations.

With this program, Lincoln, in partnership with the Oakland Unified School District, seeks to improve students' Average Daily Attendance, prevent students from dropping out of school, and generate new revenue for the school district.

What is unique about CEO Youth?

CEO Youth guides the youth's creativity, curiosity and energy into launching a youth-led business venture that provides peer services to help other students improve school attendance and achievement. A guest speaker roundtable series of successful local business leaders will engage the youth in discovering their entrepreneurial talents and motivating them to define and pursue their life goals.

Students who participate in CEO Youth:

  • Acquire life and job skills by learning the basics of establishing and operating a youth-led business venture
  • Improve their school attendance
  • Attend roundtable discussions with local business leaders
  • Receive a stipend for successful participation
